The VU Law Faculty held a simultaneous chess match with the Speaker of the Parliament Viktorija Čmilyte-Nielsen
On November 29th was a simultaneous chess match with the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktorija Čmilyte-Nielsen. The chess grandmaster was challenged by a group of law students, teachers and alumni. Simultaneously, the Speaker of the Seimas played against 12 opponents at the same time, three of whom were Ukrainian students.
At the beginning of the game, V. Čmilytė-Nielsen and dean Assoc. Dr. Harold Šinkūnas discussed the sport of chess and the changes brought by artificial intelligence. “We can just admire how harmoniously the machines are able to play chess,” she commented, when asked if the rapid development of artificial intelligence causes fear among professional chess players.
V. Čmilytė-Nielsen shared that she started playing chess when she was only 6 years old and practiced intensively, even up to 7 hours a day. She said that in her childhood she prioritized the sport of chess and participated in up to 10 tournaments a month, and later became a grandmaster of the sport.
