International Conference “The European Convention on Human Rights Implementation – between subsidiarity and the European Court of Human Rights Care”
On 2 September 2016, the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania hosted the international scientific-practical conference “The European Convention on Human Rights Implementation – between subsidiarity and the European Court of Human Rights Care”. The conference was initiated by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania representative in the European Court of Human Rights and organized together with the Lithuanian President, Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania, Vilnius University Faculty of Law and the Lithuanian Law Institute. The conference brought together the European Court of Human Rights and the Lithuanian court judges, prominent scientists, government representatives and human rights experts.
Conference participants were welcomed by President Dalia Grybauskaite’s representative, as well as Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis. The event was attended by the judges of European Court of Human Rights – prof. Egidijus Kūris, Paul Mahoney, Iulia Antoanella Motoc and judges from Lithuanian courts: the chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania prof. Dainius Žalimas, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Lithuania Rimvydas Norkus, the judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Lithuania Gintaras Goda, the Vice-President the Supreme Administrative Court of the Republic of Lithuania Irmantas Jarukaitis. The discussion was moderated by the Dean of Vilnius University Law Faculty prof. Tomas Davulis.
“The national courts should focus on the reasoning of their decisions on each procedural step so that the human rights in Lithuania would be more secure, and gradually there would be less complaints against Lithuania in Strasbourg”, – said the judge of the European Court of Human Rights Vilnius University Professor Egidijus Kūris.
