International conference: “Public Policy: Recent Developments from Regional Perspective“
On the 8th of March 2013, the international conference “Public Policy: Recent Developments from Regional Perspective“ was organized by the law firm “Motieka and Audzevičius“ and Vilnius University.
The event was attended by well-known arbitration law experts from Lithuania and abroad. The participants of the event discussed the most important issues related to dispute resolution in arbitration, taking into account the latest practice of the Lithuanian courts.
The arbitration, that is recognized in the Western world as the solution to business disputes, has recently become more and more popular in Lithuania. “The event was a great opportunity to discuss with the strongest professionals in the field of arbitration in Europe and to explore in more depth the role of the court in the process of recognizing arbitration decisions” – said the initiator of the event, Ramūnas Audzevičius, partner of the law firm “Motieka and Audzevičius“.
Presentations were made by representatives of the Lithuanian legal elite – Prof. Habil. Dr. Valentinas Mikelėnas and Prof. Habil. Dr. Vytautas Nekrošius, as well as guests from Paris, London and Stockholm: dr. Galina Zukova, lawyer from the one of the world’s largest law firms “White & Case” and the advisor to the secretary of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, dr. Johannes Koepp, partner of the international law firm “Baker Botts”, Johan Sidklev, the partner of the Swedish law firm “Setterwalls”.
Foreign guests discussed the most important jurisdictions (France, Great Britain and Sweden) of the European Union related to arbitration. The capitals of these countries are the main centres for resolving European arbitration disputes: in Paris – ICC (International Chamber of Commerce), In London – LCIA (London Court of International Arbitration), in Stockholm – SCC (Stockholm Chamber of Commerce).
