Vilnius University Faculty of Law invites young researchers to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in law in Vilnius starting from the year of 2025. It is a great opportunity for young researchers to deepen their knowledge and expertise with qualified supervisors and colleagues right at the heart of Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Vilnius university is ranked as one of the top 400 of the best universities worldwide.
The planned duration of the fellowship is up to 2 years (with a possibility to extend it up to 3 years or participate with breaks under certain conditions). Participation can only be done in contact here in Vilnius, Lithuania, at Vilnius University Faculty of Law. Remote (online) participation is not possible. The university offers a salary of around 3090 EUR prie-tax (around 1870 EUR post-tax) per month.
Who can apply: postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, holding a PhD degree, obtained no earlier than 5 years ago (not including maternity, paternity or childcare leave). The degree must not be obtained at Vilnius University.

Priority topics: Vilnius University Faculty of Law invites to research a wide variety of legal topics, aiming at providing solutions to reach UN Sustainable Development Goals. Although any related topics are welcome, topics, related to legal measures on establishing peace, justice and strong institutions as well as gender equality and reduced inequalities are preferred:
| Peace, justice and strong institutions
- Combat corruption and organized crime, strengthen the rule of law and access to justice, build effective, accountable and inclusive governance institutions, protect rights and fundamental freedoms.
- Legal measures on establishing lasting peace and preventing violent conflicts, measures of international humanitarian and human rights obligations to protect civilians’ lives.
- Battling the use of the protection of human and democratic rights as means for hybrid war.
- Legal measures to combat overcrounding of prisons and reduce the number of prisoners.
| Gender equality
- Legal protection of women‘s rights.
- Abolishing discriminatory laws and establishing legal frameworks to advance gender equality.
- Enhancing women’s participation, opportunities and roles in leadership and decision-making.
- Eliminate all forms of discrimination, violance and harmful practices against all women and girls.
- Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.
| Reduced inequalities
- Adoption of policies in accordance with the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations, especially fiscal, wage and social protection policies, and progressively achieve greater equality.
- Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard.
- Facilitate orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people, including through the implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies.
