VU Faculty of Law established cooperation with the festival of human rights documentary films “Inconvenient Films” („Nepatogus kinas“). The festival’s films emphasizing human rights issues not only broaden the horizons of national and regional issues, but also play an important educational role about the importance of ensuring human rights and the complex social reality.
Students of the 5th year of the faculty, who have chosen the study subject “Issues of Jurisprudence”, analyse the basics of the judge’s activity and the crisis of judicial power in Poland. The source of inspiration for this analysis is the festival film “Judges Under Pressure” (dir. Kacper Lisowski, 2023). Students will independently watch the film at their own convenience and will provide written insights into the issues discussed in the film, as well as presenting conceptual insights during the lecture.
“The thematic field of the festival is particularly close to the Faculty of Law. The synthesis of film and studies is not a discovery, but until now the integration of film in law studies has been rather fragmentary. In cooperation with the “Nepatogus kinas” festival, it is possible to consider the systematic discussion of human rights and rule of law issues in the study process through audiovisual media. At the same time, students have the opportunity to feel the regional and global trends and peculiarities of human rights dynamics – this makes their studies extremely relevant”, – observes Assoc. Prof. Donatas Murauskas.
The “Inconvenient Films” festival has been taking place since 2007. This year, the festival is showing about 50 selected films from around the world. The festival takes place from October 12 to 29.
