After 7-months the team of the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University – Gabija Breiterytė, Justė Kavaliauskaitė, Vytautas Vaicekauskas and Haroldas Kupstas – finished their journey at the 30th “Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition”. This competition is unofficially considered to be the Olympics of international commerce and arbitration. The main part of the competition took place in Vienna with oral presentations of party positions, during which students had convince and ground their positions, answer numerous questions of the arbitrators.
This year “Vis Moot” attracted more than 2 5000 students and 1100 practitioners from around 90 jurisdictions. In the general rounds, the team had the honor of competing with teams from Australia, United States of America, Austria and Cambodia. Moreover, the team became close friends with teams from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey and countless other countries. Along to that, the team was welcomed by partner Jurgita Petkutė at the KNOETZL law firm and enjoyed a perfect time in the city of dreams and music where Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud lived.
The team was tutored, supported and mentored by the beloved coaches: Eglė Zemlytė, Raimonda Kundrotaitė and Pooja Damodaran. Without their countless hours the “Vis Moot” journey of the team would not have been as it was.
In the last month before the competition, the team had the honor and enriching experience to be guided by Santtu Turunen, an independent arbitrator, former secretary general of the Finnish Arbitration Institute and long-time coach of the Helsinki University “Vis Moot” team.
