Prestigious European legal institute has established a Baltic Hub, which will be co-chaired by assoc. prof. dr. Laurynas Didžiulis from Law Faculty

The European Law Institute (ELI) established a Baltic Hub in the Summer of 2024, representing Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian jurisdictions. The Baltic Hub will be chaired by three individuals, each from one of the three Member States.

The Co-Chair from Lithuania is a legal scholar of the VU Law Faculty, advocate and arbitrator Dr Laurynas Didžiulis. He is an author of various works on issues of private law, especially contract law and property law, also former candidate for the position of Advocate General of the CJEU. The Co-Chair from Latvia is Anna Skrjabina and from Estonia is Dr Piia Kalamees.

The Hub will primarily focus on two main areas: first, contributing to the overall development of European law; and second, highlighting the common features of the Baltic States’ legal systems, which share similar socio-economic conditions and modern history, within the broader European context.

ELI, Founder of the Baltic Hub, is an independent, democratic, membership-based organization focused on European legal development in a global context. ELI’s works have influenced that of the European legislature as well as laws at national and international level, therefore impacting the lives of millions in Europe and beyond. Members of ELI are notable legal scholars, practitioners and institutions, such as the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), various national Supreme Courts and other courts of highest instance, including the Supreme Court of Lithuania, the Senior Administrative Court of Lithuania and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia.
