Diverging human rights standards in the US and Europe discussed in the guest lecture of Dr. Donatas Murauskas at Wake Forest University School of Law, USA on 24 February 2020. The lecture titled “The U.S. Effect: Influences on the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights” focused on specific examples how the difference in human rights standards in the United States in comparison to the European ones is reflected in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The lecture and the following discussion showed that the present divergence may have a direct influence on the success of cooperation between European countries and the US.
Students, professors of international law, constitutional law and criminal law attended the lecture and engaged in discussions. The event was organized in cooperation with International Law Society. Dr. Donatas Murauskas is Asist. Prof. at Vilnius University Law Faculty, he is presently a Fulbright research scholar at Wake Forest University School of Law.
