Lecturers Goda Strikaitė-Latušinskaja and Dr Paulius Jurčys from the Faculty of Law have garnered attention from German media. The German public radio cultural station Deutschlandfunk Kultur featured a report titled “Is Lithuania a Role Model for Germany?”, presenting Lithuania as a positive example due to the innovative use of AI knowledge twins in VU’s teaching process.
In the spring semester of 2024, students enrolled in the data protection law course gave high praise to this innovation. They described it as a unique experience that not only enhanced their legal knowledge but also strengthened their self-confidence.
“I enriched [my digital twin] with my expertise—lecture materials, academic works, and publications. My AI twin is an expert in copyright and data protection, just like me,” explained Dr Paulius Jurčys during the radio programme.
The radio journalist noted that Dr Jurčys emphasised the key advantage of the AI knowledge twins—they safeguard student privacy. Unlike ChatGPT, this system does not require registration with a name or email address. According to Dr Jurčys, universities should be preparing students for a future where AI will play a significant role, rather than restricting its use.
“We need to reconsider the purpose of the university. It is the responsibility of educators to prepare students for this new world. This entails fundamentally restructuring lectures and the education system,” said Dr Jurčys.
The journalist remarked that this “new world,” as described by Dr Jurčys, clearly resonates with students. During the broadcast, VU student María Ignacia Borgoño Serrano expressed her delight at choosing Lithuania for her master’s studies.
