The year 2024 marks twenty years of the membership of the Republic of Lithuania in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO): on 29 March 2004 Lithuania became a NATO Member State. Since then the nature and extent of the threats to international peace and security have been changing, the Organisation has been transforming and developing, and Lithuania has been growing. Today, on the eve of the twenty years’ of Lithuania’s membership in the Alliance, we cherish the significance of this membership. In face of the lasting Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, we understand the price paid by Ukraine in fight for fundamental principles of international law and European values. The ever changing international geopolitical landscape will bring even more challenges to the strength of the Alliance and the unity of its Member States.
On the 5th of February 2024 an International Conference “Euro-Atlantic Partnership: Lithuania’s 20 Years of NATO Membership and the Role of the Alliance in Changing International Geopolitical Landscape” is being organised by the Law Faculty of Vilnius University (Public Law Department); it will also open annual scientific event of the Law Faculty of Vilnius University Teisės mokslo pavasaris 2024 (Spring of the Science of Law 2024).
Conference speakers include the researchers of Vilnius University and other scientific (research) institutions of Lithuania, representatives from the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania and NATO, professors from foreign universities (Lviv and Kiev, Ukraine, and Szczecin, Poland) and other participants.
