Prof. Dr. J. Paužaitė-Kulvinskienė, together with PhD candidates G. Strikaitė-Latušinskaja, D. Kubiliūtė and D. Korchahin, last week (24 – 30 of September) visited the city of Graz (Austria) with a Twinning visit, funded by the Arqus Alliance, the topic of which was “Sustainability and technology challenges of public administration and court proceedings”. Part of the activities of this mobility visit coincided with the official visit to the University of Graz of the Dean of Vilnius university Faculty of Law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Šinkūnas and the Vice-Dean for studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. V. Vėbraitė.
In the joint introductory meetings with the Dean of the Graz Faculty of Law (REWI) prof. Dr. B.A., LL.M. Christoph Bezemek, as well as Vice-Dean prof. Dr. Bettina Nunner-Krautgasser, Austria’s second largest law school’s news and breakthroughs in the international and interdisciplinarity of legal research were introduced. Also, the UNICORN – a port of start-ups and innovations, where joint scientific and business projects are implemented was visited. During the meeting with the head of the “Climate Change” centre prof. Oliver Ruppel and his team of doctoral students, the challenges of environmental protection in the field of energy and the issues of resolving disputes in the field of environmental protection were discussed. Whereas, in a meeting with the supervisor of the “Smart regulation” project, prof. Dr. J. Zollner, he discussed the challenges of conducting interdisciplinary research in law and other fields, as well as ways of cooperation with economists, psychologists, engineers, and doctors in jointly conducted scientific research projects.
One of the special features of the University of Graz faculty of Law is the Centre for Eastern European and Eurasian Studies. Its representatives Dr. Aiste Mickonytė and Prof. Benedikt Harzl presented the activities of the mentioned centre, conducted research projects and their areas. During the free time, the PhD candidates enjoyed the abundance of legal sources of law in the university library (see in the picture). Also, one day of the visit was dedicated to a joint conference of both faculties, participants of the Arqus alliance, where PhD candidates from both Vilnius University and University of Graz delivered the following presentations: D. Korchahin “EU sustainability regulatory agenda for fashion industry players”; D. Kubiliūtė “European Union financial services law and the sustainability objectives”; G. Strikaitė-Latušinskaja “The use of technology in courts in light of the principle of the rule of law” and others.
