NOHA is an international association of Universities that aims to enhance professionalism in the humanitarian sector. Since 2012 Vilnius University, as a member of NOHA network, during the spring semester was organising a short in-class introductory course on humanitarian action for those who are involved in humanitarian action and feel the need to upgrade their basic knowledge and skills and more generally those who are willing to join the humanitarian action. This year due to pandemic the short-online training is being organised in partnership with the Lithuanian National Non-Governmental Development Cooperation Organisations’ Platform (NGDO Platform). This training would include traditional NOHA Spring School topics, but would also introduce the regional perspective and challenges.
The participants of the training will study in the areas related to humanitarian activities, developments in the sphere of humanitarian action. The course will start from the overview of the current challenges and principles of humanitarian action. The training will include the lectures on psychological preparation for humanitarian activities, moral and ethical consequences that emerge from humanitarian action also on complex roles taken by anthropologists in the field. The last day of the training will cover the topics of the humanitarian action in the regional context, first of all discussing the management of the operations of humanitarian organisations during the pandemic. 2020 also marked an important change for the level of peace and stability in the region: the situation in Belarus which escalated migration and the need for humanitarian assistance, an outbreak in the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, thus training will focus on new tendencies and the way of working of the front-line humanitarian organisations also presenting the Lithuania’s development cooperation and humanitarian aid during 2020 sharing the experience of humanitarian missions with Armenia and humanitarian work with asylum seekers from Belarus.
